The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett
Rough Trade by Katrina Carrasco
Things Don’t Break on Their Own by Sarah Easter Collins
My Favorite Scar by Nicolás Ferraro
The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera
The In Crowd by Charlotte Vassell
I have read and posted my thoughts about Listen For The Lie by Amy Tintera which I reallly enjoyed and recommend. Haven't read the others but I am on hold for The God of The Woods by Liz Moore with 9 weeks still left to go.
The Edgars tend to focus on noir and hard boiled mystery/crime novels. And so I got curious and went back to the first Edgar award winners from the 1940's and early 50's. Many of those books are out of print but with kindle unlimited and the Libby reading service I have been able to check out a few and right now I am listening on audio to A Kiss Before Dying by Ira Levin (1954 Edgar for Best First Novel) which so far is a real page turning experience. The 2025 Edgar Award winners will be announced in May.

I really need to get my act together and pay more attention to what's up for awards. Based on the titles, these all sound great!
ReplyDeleteListen for the Lie was good and I was pleased to see it nominated. Haven't read the others but I am on hold for The God of The Woods and I still have 8 weeks to go and I'll be interested to see if it was worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you listed this award & the nominees. I've listened to the audio of The God of the Woods - the only one I know on the list (mostly a crime novel) ... but I sort of hope another nominee wins it. Perhaps Listen for the Lie!
ReplyDeleteI would like Listen For The Lie to win. I'm on hold for The God of The Woods. Not sure what to expect.
DeleteThe God of the Woods by Liz Moore and Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera are the only two books on the list that I am familiar with and I haven't read either of those. I guess that isn't too unusual for me because I have never kept up with current releases anyway. But you would think I would recognize some of the other authors.
ReplyDeleteThe God of the Woods and Listen For the Lie are the only two nominees I am familiar with also. Listen For The Lie was good. I will definitely give whatever wins a try and I believe the awards are announced in May. Also just finished book two in the Vera Wong series and it was worth the wait!
DeleteI've read The Tainted Cup... it's weird and wonderful, I liked it a lot. I'm trying to get The God of the Woods from my local library as they do have a copy, but every time I check it's out!
ReplyDeleteI am still ten weeks waiting for The God of The Woods and I applied through Libby in early March. But I will not give up!. Just read book two of the Vera Wong series and it's really good. It's still funny and Vera is great but also book two takes the series to a deeper level. I was very impressed.
DeleteOh that's good to hear about book 2 of the VW series, I'll keep an eye out for that. I think we're going to have to be patient re The God of the Woods. It's clearly rather good!
