Salutation To The Dawn - A Poem by Kalidasa

I am a worrier and so while I was reading Dale Carnegie's How To Stop Worrying And Start Living, a very good book, I came upon this poem by Kalidasa (4th - 5th century CE) and wanted to share:

Salutation To The Dawn ~ by Kalidasa

Look to this Day,

for it is Life – the very Life of Life.

In its brief course lie all the verities

and realities of your existence:

the Bliss of Growth,

the Glory of Action,

the Splendor of Beauty.

For yesterday is already a dream

and tomorrow is only a vision;

but today, well-lived,

makes every yesterday a dream of happiness

and every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this Day.

Such is the salutation of the Dawn.

~ by Kalidasa, Indian Sanskrit Playwright and Poet,

    1. Hi Cath, glad to share because I know how big a problem anxiety and worrying are. In Dale Carnegie's book he talks about learning to live in day-tight compartments. Easier aid then done but it is worth a try.

  2. I don't know if I am a worrier so much as an overthinker but my mother was definitely a worrier, so maybe I inherited some of that.

I have seen that poem somewhere before and it is a beautiful poem to live by.

  4. I love this poem! I tend to worry too much, too. And I also struggle with anxiety. But the ideas in this poem are so true...and so good to remember. Thanks for sharing! :D

    1. Glad you liked the poem Lark and I am only on the first chapter of Dale Carnegie's book How To Stop Worrying and Start Lving but so far I am finding good advise. Carnegie published this book in the 1940's but it's still relevant.

  5. Oh nice poem. It seems to be saying "live in the present," which seems good advice. I need to worry less and probably live in the present more too. Not easy!
