Top Ten Tuesday

Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl  has an interesting challenge every Tuesday in which she picks a topic and asks readers and bloggers to choose a list of 10 books that conform to that topic.  Today's topic is Forgotten Backlist Titles - choose 10 books that you really enjoyed that no one really talks about much anymore.  Here are my ten and though many of these authors are well known these books are not read as much as they should be and that's a shame.  I would happily read all of them again:

  1. You came up with a good list...10 interesting titles and I haven't read any of them. I think Saints looks especially good. And The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer, too. This was a fun TTT this week, wasn't it? :D

  2. Hi Lark, it was a fun TTT and Saints is fantastic. Orson Scott Card is better known for his science fiction but he also wrote historical fiction and Saints is an example of this. Imagine a novel that starts out with a poor family living in the the North of England with very little to look forward to and then the family hears about Joseph Smith and Mormonism and they cross the ocean to live in Utah and start a new life there. It's a book that is part Victorian novel and part Western and it's so well written.

    1. Some of my ancestors made that same trip from England to Utah...for the same reasons. :D

  3. Unfortunately I have never been to England but I have been to Utah years ago and loved it. And I think Saints is a book you will really ike. It's a long book but it's one of those novels you can really dive into.

  4. I haven't read any of these authors and the one I really want to read someday is Larry McMurtry.

  5. Hi Tracy, yes I have to read more of Larry McMurty. Desert Rose is a mother daughter story and Harmony, the mother, who works as a Las Vegas showgirl is a very sweet and innocent character who loves her daughter and is just trying to get by. It's time for a reread.

  6. I definitely like the premise of forgotten backlist titles. There are loads of books that it seems only I have read, but they've been memorable for me. Sadly I only recognize Larry McMurtry--I've read Leaving Cheyenne, which was only okay, and Lonesome Dove, which I would like to reread, but I'll have to consider Desert Rose since you found it memorable. I've actually considered starting a challenge myself--70s, 80s, and 90s blockbusters. There were so many good books that have been forgotten and are fun to reread. Happy August reading!

  7. Hi Jane, 70's 80's and 90's blockbusters sounds very good and you know for the 80's I've been thinking of rereading Jackie Collins' Hollywood Wives I read it many years ago and maybe it's not great literature but I enjoyed it.
