I am excited about this challenge and I hope everyone is having a great summer and happy reading!

Love the way you've chosen such a diverse bunch of books and how they represent not only different styles but different writing eras. I've read Joy Luck Club and found it to be much more intricately written than I expected from the movie version. Was impressed by The Maid except for the ending...and still find Emma to be lots of fun. Not crazy about Nomadland, but that's just me. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam. I saw the Joy Luck movie too and really enjoyed it and I know Amy Tan is a very fine writer. I have been hesitating about reading Nomadland because the subject matter scares me a bit. Like most of us I have to watch my finances. But I chose Nomadland because the Classics Challenge had an interesting prompt a few years ago "choose a book that scares you" I have a number of such books on my list and oddly enough none of them are horror books.
DeleteGreat list in that I have read several of these and enjoyed them a lot. I loved The Maid and H is for Hawk. Emma, of course, is a favorite, and I remember liking the The Joy Luck Club, but it's been decades since I read it. Happy reading and happy summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane. I started reading with a focus back in 2015 when I started my blog. And I know for certain I would not have read a quarter of the great books I have read without this blog and the challenges keep me motivated. I posted on your site about An Illiad and I am sorry about the anonymous tag. Something went wrong. I am really interested in that book and thanks for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteGreat list for this summer reading challenge. The Maid and Emma are two of my favorites. And I loved Nomadland, too! What an interesting and compelling read. Hope you get a chance to read all of these this summer! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Lark, I am really going to focus and finish all of these books by Sept 1. Twenty books would have been impossible but ten I can manage. Hope you have a great reading summer too and I have heard alot of good things about The Maid so that book I am definitely getting to.
DeleteGood list Kathy! I've always wanted to read H is for Hawk but when I've started it I've never gotten very far. Still I haven't given it up. The Maid is a quick read, a bit fun. The movies for Joy Luck Club and Nomadland were both good. Did you see those? I hope you enjoy your summer & reading.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, I have not seen the movie for Nomadland but I did see the film version of The Joy Luck Club and liked it alot. I've always wanted to read H is for Hawk. I am taking a bit of a chance though because I am not sure if I'll be interested in what goes into training hawks but you never know. I hope you have a great reading summer too.
ReplyDeleteHi Tracy, I am sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well and I hope you are feeling better. I always look forward to your blogs and hearing from you. Tourist Season has been on my radar for years. I did read about 20 or 30 pages of it quite some time ago and thought that what I read was very funny and well done. I am going slow too with the summer challenge but agree what I don't read in the summer I can always read in the fall.
